I've been detailing as a hobby since 1987 when I bought my first buffer. A GEM orbital buffer. I have lots of others now, but she is still my go to. I don't do sides with her anymore! Damn good workout if you can. Back in the late 80's I did get paid for Auto Detailing. My ambition was larger than my skills or Auto Detailing knowledge. I did it as a way to make some extra money while I was also working as a waiter, going to school full time and detailing 2-3 cars per weekend. I remember asking $75 per car, normal exterior hand wash, clay, polish, wax and glaze. Windows cleaned inside/out. Tire dressing and interior vacuum and wipe down with vinyl dressing. Since then, detailing for me is like a lot of you guys on here. It's a stress reliever to get in the garage, turn on the music, or maybe a game or race on TV and zone out with my hobby. I don't know if my skills really grew. My knowledge has. I'm not a guru, but I can usually determine next best course of action given enough time to think and surf AG! I have ALWAYS wanted a detail business. Do what you love and everything takes care of itself, right? That has worked for me with computers. I am now slowly setting up a business again. Just taking my time to think through the steps as I progress. I am working on launching, 'www.GlazeManAutoDetailing.com'. I have no time table developed on when to launch. It will probably be a 2017 goal as I use this year to research, look for a car wash to buy/create where I can offer auto detailing services and resell product. I do have a vision for the look, feel, business model, services and type of mixed store front of how brick and mortar is mixed with on-line presence. I have always pictures the business in my head, went as far to take a 3-day class in Life Mastery where I had time to do a deep dive into the vision and document it and what the results will be for my family, me and the community I live in.
