  • Glad to hear you and the the little ones are doing well and continue to do so buddy! :)
    Hi Dave,

I've read a couple of your posts and I guess you know a fair bit about pads which is why I decided to drop you a PM.

I'm looking to do some boat detailing, and the oxidation that I'm facing looks to be pretty tough. It usually takes more than 1 pass of Presta Supercut Compound with a Meguiar's wool to get finish without hazing, and I'm wondering if I'm doing it right.

I'm looking to review my choice of pads and here's where I need your opinions.

    What would you consider to be the;

    1) Most aggressive wool pad in the market.

    2) The best wool pad that cuts well and finishes brilliantly.

    3) A good cutting foam pad (how does it compare to the wool's cutting power?)

    4) A good second step foam pad that finishes well.

Advanced thanks and hope to hear from you!
Dave, Can I send a doc to your email? (which I would need)
You have been so helpfull to everyone and I see you dont mind typing a lot LOLOLOL. I wanted to send you my rough draft for packages. This is due to word of mouth and people asking me if I would do their cars. Some of them near work,, but it is an hour 1/2 to get out here. The web links at the bottom of the page are what I am using as a baseline. One in my town and the other near work. (and after seeing Profits thread I thought I would keep this private LOLOL. Im not trying for 50 an hour either, (35 would be nice though!)
Wording is also an issue in the first paragraph. How better to get that point across that I am not a 100% self contained unit?
I cant find that thread you were talking about. Send me the link when you get a chance
    Hey Dave,

Wonderful weather, huh? I had hoped we we done with this crap. Anway, looks like this Sunday will be kinda OK. I was planning on a little practice with the DA - polish my RAV4 (WG TSR, WG FG, WG PPE) just to play and throw on a coat of wax. From posts I figure it's still too cold and damp for Menz Power Lock? If you have time and wanna stop up, lmk.

BTW, my nephew owns an 05 or so Ion, a bit of a beater. He's a college stu, no garage. I told him about the long term sealants and he's interested in the idea of something semi-permanent. So, once I have some experience I was figuring on testing Opti-Coat or CQuartz on his ride. Lemme know if you're interested in trying that out.
I've also been detailing my own cars for many, many years...experimenting as you have. I'm also a 57 Y/O man that loves his current job, but also would love to detail cars on the side as a ramp up to my retirement years. In my area, the "market" is not people that want show car perfection. Yes, there are some, but they usually do their own detailing.

I've come to the conclusion that if i want to make a nice retirement business some day, detailing daily driver cars is where I can see a great opportunity. I can even envision setting up with a local car repair shop to detail cars on a more "production" line type way...with say 2 or even 3 guys turning our detailed cars in 3 hours (tops 4 hours). Yes, people would have the option of getting the "works" (higher end stuff)...but most would NOT be a multi-step job.

Maybe I'm crazy but turning around 2 or 3 cars a day is something that would fly, especially after a long winter when cars are a real mess (like right now in western NY state).
